The St. Cloud Police Reserves (SCPR) is a volunteer organization dedicated to the goal of assisting the St Cloud Police Department with trained and uniformed volunteer officers. Training and uniforms are provided.

The St. Cloud Police Reserve Unit is comprised of 25 members, male and female, including a captain, training sergeant, secretary/treasurer sergeant, and up to 22 patrol officers. The St. Cloud Police Reserve Unit works directly through and with the Police Department.

The St. Cloud Police Reserve Unit has an appointed liaison officer and assistant liaison officer that are full-time police officers. The liaisons report to the Assistant Chief of the Operations Division and ultimately to the Chief of Police.

Our reserve officers come from all walks of life. Wanting to be a regular full-time officer is not a requirement.

You must be a United States citizen, or have a work visa, be at least eighteen years old, and have a valid driver’s license.

All selected applicants will be required to submit a physical exam by their personal physician stating they are in good physical condition to perform duties associated with that of police work prior to being allowed to ride with a regular officer.

Each prospective applicant is carefully screened before they are sworn in as an officer. Background investigations are completed before appointment.

Each member is expected to attend the monthly meeting and ride with a regular police officer a minimum of eight (8) hours a month. Meetings are conducted every fourth Tuesday of the month from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

No new reserve is allowed in a squad car until they have fulfilled the basic requirements and have an understanding of what is expected of them.

Topics of training include: firearms, self-defense, crowd control, pressure points, handcuffing, traffic direction, simunitons, and many other areas as needed.

As a St. Cloud Police Reserve you do not carry a weapon: however, each member is trained in the use of the Police M-4 rifle, and the Glock .40 caliber handgun.

As a St. Cloud Police Reserve you will work with a regular police officer who is in charge at all times. Reserves are expected to assist the officer they are working with in situations, such as; physically restraining combative persons, crowd control, and traffic direction. These are just a few of the tasks a reserve does, but are intended as a brief explanation of the requirements and duties of a St. Cloud Police Reserve.

If interested in applying for a St. Cloud Police Reserve Officer position, please complete an application and return it in a large sealed manila envelope to the Information Desk at the St. Cloud Police Department, attention Lt. Edblad.
